Some ads and a few funeral directors might lead you to think otherwise, but funeral directors do not specialize in any specific service. We handle everything—whether it’s burial, cremation, entombment, or green burial. Just this week, a colleague of ours got a call from a family who’d been referred to him. They were considering a green burial for their loved one and wondered if he could provide that service. Of course he could! Why would they think otherwise? Well, maybe because the family mentioned they had spoken with some “green burial expert” before reaching out to him. Say what!? That threw him for a loop since there are no “specialists” in any type of service; we all do it all and he told them that.
Cremation is one of those things people often get mixed up about. A lot of families call crematories in the belief that they can schedule a cremation service directly, only to find out that in New York State, you’ve got to go through a funeral director first. Because of this confusion, some funeral homes have started adding “cremation” to their business names. And then there are those who take advantage of the situation, advertising as “Direct Cremation Services” or “Simple Cremation Solutions. In New York State, if you’re planning on arranging a cremation, you’ll need to get in touch with a licensed funeral director.
Besides taking care of cremations and green burials, funeral directors are also there to help with everything else you might need for a funeral. We can set up memorial services, offer support if you’re grieving, and customize the service to celebrate your loved one’s life just how you want it.
And if you have any questions about any of this we are here to answer them. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
