Funeral service is a sacred and dignified profession, largely characterized by confidentiality due to its delicate nature. As with many fields, there exists a necessary behind-the-scenes component to our work. Nevertheless, there seems to be an increase in information being posted on social media accounts under the guise of “transparency”. Such posts are predominantly driven by individuals seeking attention. Day in and day out, they try to outdo one another by sharing certain aspects of funeral service that should inherently remain private.
Regrettably, this trend has led to unforeseen repercussions; it’s distorting public perceptions towards crucial elements of our industry–like embalming and the intrinsic value of open casket visitation. It is important that we maintain professional discretion, while upholding transparency, within appropriate boundaries.
Posters range in age from youth who may lack understanding, and regretfully, some who are old enough to know better. All are an embarrassment to funeral service and do a disservice to the families we serve. Funeral service is not a source of amusement and entertainment.
