Debunking Misleading Articles About Women in Funeral Service

Articles making a big deal about women in funeral service seem never ending. They highlight the notion that women working in this field are a novelty, which is truly perplexing.

Let’s be real – stories about “young girls breaking into funeral service” could have made headlines 35 years ago. But today with half the graduates from mortuary school being female, that is no longer the case. After all, we don’t read articles about how surprising it is to find a female doctor, lawyer, or other professional. So, why keep up with such silliness when talking about funeral service?

The truth is, the presence of women in funeral service is no longer something new or uncommon, and it is disheartening to see these articles undermining the hard work and dedication of women in this field. Women have been actively involved in funeral service for decades, contributing their expertise and compassion to help families through their darkest times. Insinuating that their presence is a novelty serves to demean all we’ve accomplished. It is high time that the media acknowledges and appreciates the contributions of women in funeral service, not as a novelty, but as deserving professionals who add much to the industry.
